This is definitely the Cobb house. It was the oldest house in Liverpool built sometime after Liverpool was founded in 1759 from timber brought up from New England. It was located at the end of Wolfe Street on the property where the Cobb monument is. It was vacant for many years and a few people went inside one cold night and decided to start a fire to keep warm, the house of course burned. This was in the 1940s.
OMG, I recognized it!!! And I have been living in the States for 40 years!! great photo. and of course, my reconnect friend Janice from the Arctic, not even the tundra, is related??? How cool is that?! Don't know if you all know how funny this is, but I often talk about the years of Liverpool & Queens County history we had to learn! My friends think it is hysterical and my brother teases me about my photographic memory...so I do remember this house.
Hey! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website? I'm getting sick and tired of Wordpress because I've had issues with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
My step father used to live there as a child and they used to dig up old coins and cannon ball and such in the basement dirt floor. quite a history on that house !!
Is that where Mary Pitts used to live...on Henry Hensey Drive?

ReplyDeleteThis is Sylvanus Cobbs house where the park is now. He is a direct descendent of mine on the Mitchell side of the family.
