This house stumped everyone, even me. However after asking a few older folks in town who remembered the house I discovered that this house was located near Stenpro and they demolished it some years ago. If you can enlarge the photo you can see the work "company" to the right of the house on a building in back (probably a Stenpro building). I don't remember this house at all and have no idea what year it was destroyed. It was owned by the Day family.
Mrs. John Day's house which she rented to the Lundrigan Family. It was located behind the home of (current owner) William Hayes, artist, who lives across from Queens County Museum. This information I received from Betty Richardson and Joyce Madden (Mrs. Day's granddaughter)
I know this house very well. It was used by the TRA food distribution company. I personally salvaged every interior vertical hand planed wide board with a beaded edge from the wreckers of the building. I was told it was being demolisher in 1980/81 during which time I was restoring the French/Acadian Mission (1699) in Poplar Grove NS. I used all the floor boards and wall boards to panel the walls and board the main level floors and hallway.I also salvaged the best vintage doors as well.I will send Tim some photos of the before and afters from that time.

ReplyDeleteI would be interested in when it was torn down. It looks so familiar, but it is not an area that I even grew up near.
