In my boxes of Queens County treasures, I found another Queens County phone book. Unfortunately this one I have no idea what year it is from and from looking at names on it, I'm almost tempted to believe it's older than the 1953 phone book that I put on here a few days ago.
It is still bfore 1956, that's when my family moved here and they are not listed in this book.

My grandfather worked at D.D Iness when he was alive back then.
ReplyDeleteTim, my great grandmother's name is listed: Mrs. Nancy Quinn. She pssed away in 1945 well into her eighties and is buried in the Quinn lot, St. Gregory's.. I see O. M. Shankel listed. His son was a renowned War hero. He was a great uncle and operated the Western Union Telegraph on Main Street next to the former old Post Office...both buildings were torn down to make way for the present Federal Building (Post Office) by the Liberals.
ReplyDeletePrior to 1945. The foundry closed in 1930 so after that and before 1945.
